The demands for workspaces are constantly evolving. Modern offices such as coworking spaces need to continuously evolve in order to meet and predict the demands of professionals. What are workers looking for in workspaces in 2025? How are coworking spaces around the world meeting these needs? From adapting extra infrastructure to support women in business and increased family care in the workplace, to tech advancements and increased sustainability within workspaces. In this article, we’ll be diving into what’s new in the coworking industry in 2025.

Coworking Industry Trends of 2025

  • Demand for more sustainable workspaces
  • Increased support for women’s health
  • Coworking spaces with childcare support
  • Workspaces outside of the city centre
  • Workspace community and culture continue to be important
  • Tech basics and advancements

Sustainability on Our Minds

Green plants grow on the side of a modern office building

The environmental impacts of global warming have reached an all-time high. According to a study conducted by business services provider IBM, 68 per cent of employees are more likely to accept jobs from companies that are sustainable. Environmentally conscious professionals are now looking for ways to be more sustainable in more aspects of their lives, including choosing workspaces that are sustainable forward. This includes paying extra attention to office buildings with certifications such as Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification, which rates the sustainability of green buildings. Coworking companies with sustainability initiatives such as upcycling office furniture and sourcing them from local companies to reduce carbon footprint are just a few examples of what potential customers may be looking for.

Eliminating Women’s Health Stigma

It’s time to close the gender gap in 2025. While some companies have been providing benefits such as extra days off for menstruating workers, some workspace providers have also amped up their period amenities. Supporting women inside and outside the workplace is essential for the future of work, and eliminating the stigma surrounding women’s health is the first step to this process.

At The Executive Centre, we’ve partnered with LUÜNA, a sustainable wellness company, to provide complimentary menstrual care to our Members. While we can’t eliminate pink tax from the world entirely, we’re here to do our part. At some of our Centres across the world, we’ve also introduced breastfeeding rooms to provide a comfortable and safe environment for working mothers.

Childcare in the Workplace

As the demand for work-life balance continues, we prioritise people and things that we care about the most. Workspaces worldwide are becoming more flexible to working parents, with some workplaces even offering childcare support and services.

At The Executive Centre, we offer private Nursing Rooms in selected centres around the world, from our Jakarta Mori Centre and Pacific Century Place in Indonesia to Capital Square and Singapore Land Tower in Singapore. Our Nursing Rooms are designed to help working mothers comfortably adjust back to work. From the small pantry stocked with snacks and drinks to the in-room sink, our Nursing Rooms are designed for comfort and privacy. In a study conducted by the International Breastfeeding Journal volume, it found that mothers exposed to higher-quality lactation rooms experienced lower stress and felt more support from employers.

In other aspects of childcare, Tadah, Switzerland’s first coworking space with childcare opened in 2021, targeting working mothers with established careers. The coworking space offers a solution to working parents, offering them a productive workspace with childcare within the same centre space, allowing parents to spend more uninterrupted quality time on both their work and their children. In other parts of the world such as Toronto, San Diego and Vancouver, similar coworking spaces also offer infant care and half-day coworking plans.

Getting Outside of the City

Feeling burnt out from the city? You’re not alone. The fast-paced city life has left many professionals to seek a slower pace of living in the suburbs. As the demand for work-life balance continues, professionals are now seeking workspaces outside of the city centre. According to an IWG survey, half of UK firms have offices and coworking spaces outside of city centres, showing the change in office culture as more businesses embrace hybrid working.

Desire for Community and Social Spaces

Productivity is important, but that’s only part of the equation when it comes to retaining members in a coworking space. Modern professionals are looking for workspaces that have an existing community culture with inviting social spaces. There’s a desire to reconnect with people after Covid-19, and coworking spaces tend to attract like-minded professionals who are looking for a similar community experience.

Workspaces that reflect the company’s personality and culture will attract members of the same character and identity. For example, creatively-designed workspaces with unique interiors may attract professionals in more creative jobs such as designers, artists and writers. A generic workspace with little defining character may be a “safe” way to market a coworking space and appeal to a wider audience, but it also strips away authenticity and brand identity. This, in turn, makes it difficult to retain members in the long run.

Getting the Tech Right

In an era where we heavily rely on technology in our work and daily lives, it’s surprising that technology basics are not met in numerous businesses. In a recent NCG survey of over 1,000 businesses in the UK, office workers call for improved Wi-Fi and audiovisual tech, suggesting that the basic tech of workspaces is not consistently delivered. Aside from getting the basics right, respondents would also like to see AI-driven smart infrastructure, sustainable technologies and extended reality tech introduced by their workspace providers.
