Why Corporate Philanthropy is Your Best Business Strategy

As we celebrate the International Day of Charity 2024, let’s explore TEC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) journey and uncover five compelling reasons why your business should embrace the art of giving back.

Here’s a fun fact: Consumers are four to six times more likely to trust, champion, and purchase from companies with a strong purpose. In a landscape where authenticity is king and values drive decisions, giving back is not just an act of generosity — it’s a strategic advantage. By integrating purpose into your strategy, you’re not only making the world a better place but also enriching your business in ways you might not have imagined.

Our Impact in Numbers

With the support of our devoted Members and teammates, our TEC Community™ has turned our commitment to philanthropy into real, impactful results. In 2023 alone, we’ve proudly orchestrated and engaged in over 60 charitable events and activities, driving meaningful change in education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. Our Community’s support has extended to more than 30 local charities, with a remarkable 78% of our markets actively involved.

Here’s how our collective efforts made waves in the past year:

  • 2,557 drinks sold through our “Give Back With Every Cup” CSR campaign, with 100% of the proceeds donated to our partner charitable organisations supporting healthcare, education, environmental conservation, and social services.
  • USD 22,468 raised through donation drives, in-kind contributions, and community events, all directed to local charities.
  • 2,000+ individuals positively impacted by our charitable activities, including underprivileged children, migrant workers, patients with autism spectrum disorder, disaster survivors, and more.
  • 5,500+ Members and TEC Teammates actively engaged in our CSR initiatives, from volunteering at local events and organising fundraising activities to participating in hands-on community service charity projects.

Why Giving Back is the Ultimate Win-Win

1. Attract Top Talent

Want to catch the eye of the best and brightest? Show you care. Millennials and Gen Z place a premium on values-driven workplaces and are particularly drawn to companies that actively contribute to societal good. In fact, according to a PWC survey, 75% of workers globally prefer employers that make a positive societal impact. For companies, this doesn’t just mean more job applications — it means attracting and retaining talent that is passionate, purpose-driven, and ready to contribute to something bigger than themselves.

2. Boost Employee Mojo

The “Helper’s High” is real, and it can transform your workplace. When employees see the direct impact of their charitable efforts, it ignites a sense of pride and belonging that can’t be replicated by any other corporate perk. Studies on employee engagement show that people who know their work supports a greater cause find their jobs more fulfilling and report higher levels of motivation. This sense of purpose fosters a workplace culture where everyone feels connected, inspired, and ready to give their best every day.

3. Craft a Brand Identity that Shines

Philanthropy is more than just a feather in your cap — it’s a powerful tool for brand building. Look at major brands like Microsoft and Patagonia, whose identities are deeply intertwined with their commitment to giving back. And it’s paying off — 82% of consumers say a company’s charitable efforts influence their purchasing decisions, and 70% of Millennials are willing to spend more on brands that support meaningful causes. By aligning your brand with charity, you’re not only enhancing your profile but also shaping an ethical, caring, and distinctive identity that sets you apart in a crowded market.

4. Attract Purpose-Driven Investors

Investors are no longer just chasing profits; they’re looking for impact. A staggering 73% of investors prefer to invest in businesses that contribute to society and the environment. By showcasing your CSR initiatives, you’re aligning with these values, attracting investors who share your vision and are eager to fuel your growth.

5. Create Networking Opportunities

Charity events are not only a way to give back but also a venue for networking. Engaging with charitable organisations opens doors to connect with like-minded professionals, potential partners, and even new clients. It’s a win-win situation: you’re supporting important causes while simultaneously expanding your business network.

In the end, the best strategy might just be the one that gives the most.

By placing philanthropy at the heart of your business, you’re not only making a difference; you’re setting yourself up for lasting success. The rewards are immense — for your company, your employees, and the communities you touch.

As we mark the International Day of Charity, let’s make giving back a habit, a lifestyle, and a cause for celebration every single day. After all, in both business and life, the more you give, the more you truly gain.
